One morning I opened the front door of my apartment and saw a cat...
Sounds so ordinary, even boring, doesn't it? Not at all like the beginning of some weird story. But read on, it is going to become weird.
The cat was the exact copy of my cat Murzik who disappeared 8 years ago. He was staring up at me as if testing whether I would recognize him or not. I let him in. He acted in an odd way: first took a round of all the rooms, for a long time sniffed at the new closet - it wasn't there at Murzik's time. Then he asked me to open the bathroom, jumped on the toilet bowl, did what he had to do, and asked to flush the toilet -- everything precisely like Murzik did!
Then he went to the kitchen. I put a bowl of food in front of him, but he refused to eat until I placed the bowl on the stool -- Murzik never ate on the floor, only on the stool. Then he went to his (Murzik's) favorite spot on the sofa, among pillows, and fell asleep.
So unexpectedly, in such miraculous way I regained my beloved cat Murzik whom I had missed so badly all these years.
Now I'm convinced: animals' souls also make a transition from one body into another. And now I understand my friend the professor who always carries in his briefcase the collar of his deceased dog. This dog once saved his life. He has an unshakeable faith that one day his dog will run up at him in the street and they will go home together...
